All over America, communities have organized under Citizen Corps’ CERT program to inspire people to take action and get involved. To learn more about CERT visit https://www.fema.gov.
The FEMA sponsored Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.
CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as Fire Suppression and Hazardous Materials, Light Search and Rescue, Team Organization, Disaster Medical Operations, CERT and Terrorism, Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Psychology.
The CERT program offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks. Locally, team members participate in on-going monthly training and assist in community events to keep skills current.
Free training classes are offered twice yearly and are taught by FEMA-certified local trainers. The next class and will be held on April 5th 12th & 19th 2025, at Clackamas Community College Harmony Campus 7738 S.E. Harmony Road Milwaukie 97222. Pre-registration is required.
Trainees participate in a 3-full day Saturday, 24 hour training that combines classroom and hands-on skills training. Following graduation, trainees have the option to apply to join one of the four active CERT teams within Clackamas Fire District’s boundaries.
